Community solar lets you benefit from local solar energy without installing panels on your home.

Instead of putting solar on your roof, you subscribe to a share of a nearby solar array. That solar energy is fed into the grid, and you receive credits on your electric bill for the power it produces — lowering your overall electricity costs.

Co-op Power Community Solar brings clean energy and real bill savings to households with a National Grid electric bill, with no upfront cost and no equipment on your property.

⚡ How It Works in Western Mass (Dual Bill, Simple Savings)

In Massachusetts, community solar operates through a dual-billing system based on net metering credits, administered by Co-op Power.

How savings are generated:

  • A shared solar project produces electricity and delivers it to the grid.

  • The electric utility converts that production into net metering credits based on the value of the electricity generated.

  • These credits are sent to your electric account to cover most — but not all — of your typical energy use.

  • Co-op Power then invoices you for 85% of the value of the credits received, effectively providing solar power at a discount.

  • You continue to pay the utility directly for the remaining portion of your electricity use not covered by solar.

Participation is voluntary, flexible, and cancelable at any time.

FAQ

Do I still pay National Grid?
Yes. Con Edison continues to deliver your electricity. Community solar credits simply reduce what you owe to National Grid.

Is there a long-term contract?
No. You can cancel your subscription at any time. We need about 6 week’s notice to adjust our list with the utility.

What if I move?
You can transfer or cancel your subscription easily.
