Co-op Power is a consumer-owned energy cooperative incorporated under the consumer cooperative law in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Co-op Power is owned and democratically controlled by its consumer members. It exists to meet the energy needs of its members and the communities they live in. As owner-members, we are the cooperative. By exercising our owner-member rights of democratic participation in decision making, joint purchasing, member-to-member installations, community-scale sustainable energy development, member education, public outreach and policy advocacy, we can work together through Co-op Power to change the way we power our world.
Co-op Power is cooperatively owned by over 325 people, organizations and businesses in MA, VT, CT, NH, and NY.

Co-op Power Owner-Member Responsibilities
Each Co-op Power Owner-Member agrees to:

Join with other members to create a sustainable and just energy future in our region by pooling our capital, purchasing power, and voting power

Purchase energy products and services through the Co-op when the price, quality, and service work for me

Work together with other members, staff, and the board to accomplish the Co-op’s mission

Let Co-op Power know when it is meeting or exceeding my expectations and when I have suggestions

Participate in membership meetings to build consensus on how to move our cooperative forward

Abide by the Co-op Power articles of incorporation, by-laws and membership rules and regulation
Each Co-op Power Owner-Member acknowledges:

My equity share entitles me to the benefits of membership in Co-op Power;

My equity share is not an investment that provides a return or dividend and it will not appreciate in value;

I cannot sell my Share. Transfers are limited to gifts to a member of my immediate family. I can return my Share to Co-op Power and request that my equity be refunded;

Failure to provide Co-op Power with my current address for more than three consecutive years will result in termination of my membership and the donation of my share to Co-op Power.
NOTE: Equity Shares in a cooperative do not appreciate in value, provide a return or dividend, or sell for a profit. If these activities were allowed, the share would be an investment, not a share in a cooperative where people are coming together to meet a common need.
To Become an Affiliate
If you're not ready to become a full-member, you might consider joining as an Affiliate for just $25/year. You won't get the benefits of membership, but you'll be able to participate in some of Co-op Power's energy purchasing programs and keep up to date on what's happening at Co-op Power.
