SOLAR HOT WATER SYSTEMS

IF YOU HAVE DIRECT SUN ON YOUR HOUSE OR YARD and YOU WANT TO SAVE MONEY ON YOUR UTILITY BILLS, sign up with Co-op Power for a solar hot water system.  We have two programs - a Member-to-Member Installation program where barn raising style events can get your system installed in a day saving about 50% of what it would cost you to have a system installed - and a Professional Installer program where installers come and take you through the system from site evaluation through installation and commissioning. We generally start you out with one installer, but let us know if you'd like to have other bids.

SOLAR ELECTRIC, WIND, SMALL HYDRO, AND GEOTHERMAL SYSTEMS

And, while solar electric, small hydro, geothermal, and wind installations are a bit more expensive, they're still a great way to become more carbon neutral, reduce greenhouse gases and air pollution, increase your energy independence, and build our community base of renewable energy. Co-op Power members receive a 2% rebate on the total installation price from many installers. We generally start you out with one installer, but let us know if you'd like to have other bids.

HEATING OIL and BIOHEAT Buying Group

Co-op Power members, staff and industry advisers have engaged in months of research to bring you the following heating oil program. We unanimously believe it will give you a very good price for your oil this winter.

Co-op Power contracts with a heating oil company for discounts on deliveries in areas where we have enough buying power for a flat contracted rate for our members. We only work with full-service heating oil dealers who will service your burner when needed. When we can, we offer a bioheat blend (B5 or B20), but we are focusing on standard home heating oil this year, because of price concerns and the lack of availability of bioheat in many regions.

You must be a Co-op Power Member or an Affiliate Member ($25/year) to join the heating oil buying group.  If you're interested in joining the heating oil buying group, send an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it with your name and the city or town you live in and we'll send you info for your city or town.

WOOD PELLET Buying Group

Co-op Power has an agreement with Precision Heat Nature's Way in Ashuelot, NH, (phone (603) 239-7007 and web www.precisionheatnaturesway.com) to supply Co-op Power members (full and affiliate) with wood pellets and other discounts in the following manner:

1)  Fifty, 40 pound bags of pellets on a wooden pallet, these are hardwood, low-ash pellets manufactured in Illinois.  Members with the ability to pick up their pellets in Bernardston, MA, can avoid the delivery charges.  Pick up or delivery can be arranged by calling Precision Heat at the number above and scheduling with them.  Be sure to mention your Co-op Power membership.

2)  Bulk Storage Bagged Pellets.  The bags measure 38"x38"x38" and contain approximately 1000 to 1200 pounds of wood pellets when filled.  They can be reused for years and are a low-cost storage solution when placed in a garage, shed, or home basement.  (Just consider moisture levels in some basements or garages.)  Price is $265/ton (or 13.5 cents/pound) plus $15/ton for delivery.  There is a $25 returnable/refundable deposit on the bag or you can simply purchase it for $13.

3)  Loose wood pellets, delivered by Precision Heat's bulk truck using a 75' flexible hose into your weatherproof storage, is the preferred method and the less costly alternative. Please call for the latest pricing.

Call Precision Heat to schedule your delivery (603-239-7007).  Payment will be made to Precision Heat.  There is a TWO TON MINIMUM on all deliveries.  Please allow 5-7 business days for delivery once your order has been placed.

For loose pellet storage, any of the following methods would work well:

~~Construction of an indoor bin from plywood, plans available at Co-op Power for a 2-4 ton bin, building costs in the $200-$300 range.

~~Poly Ag bags -- as described above under #2.

~~Some members have purchased the black or rust colored 55 gallon plastic barrels, with a screw on lid (originally used to ship olives, pickles... that can be purchased cheaply at various sites).  These will hold approximately 350 pounds of wood pellets per barrel and might loan themselves to outside storage.

~~Precision Heat also sells Poly silos for outdoor storage.  They come in various sizes for an outdoor, truly weatherproof alternative.
You must be a Co-op Power Member or an Affiliate Member to join the wood pellet buying group.
